MIDLAND, Texas — Fans caught a glimpse Saturday at what the Tall City Black Gold will offer in its inaugural season in the Continental Football league as it defeated the Texas Herd out of the International Football Alliance 26-0 in a preseason game.

A roughly 50-minute weather delay pushed back the Black Gold's debut at Astound Broadband Stadium, but fans were excited to see the team before the season began. It was a slow start with Tyrel Thomas scoring the only points on a pick-6 for a 7-0 halftime score before pulling away in the second half.

The Tall City Black Gold opens the 2026 Continental Football League season on Saturday, May 30 at the Fort Worth Braves. The home opener is June 6 at 7 p.m. versus the Texas Syndicate.
