At the Wyndham Hotel in downtown Midland, the Black Gold held a meet and greet for the fans, just days before the season kicks off.
Over at the Wyndham Hotel, the Tall City Black Gold football team treated the community to a special event: a fan meet-and-greet. Fans had the chance to meet the players, the coaches, and learn more about the organization ahead of the upcoming season.
We spoke with Head Coach Rodney Blackshear and several players about their excitement and what fans can expect when the season kicks off in just a few days.
Coach Rodney Blackshear: “Disciplined football, smart football, exciting football because of the way we play the game.”
Quarterback Kobe Martin: “When I go out there, I’m going to give my all every play. Every play is another opportunity to win, so I’m giving 100%.”
Wide Receiver Caleb Jolivette: “Speed. My little sister calls me Lightning McQueen sometimes. When I touch the rock, get loud because I’m going to the end zone.”
Wide Receiver Zatarious Anderson: “To see greatness—not just within me, but from the Lord. I’m using my ability to put on a show.”
Wide Receiver Trey Goodman: “Grit and faith are non-negotiables here in the Permian Basin. This team is going to epitomize that. For God to orchestrate this all together—it’s going to be something special.”
Linebacker David Leach: “Effort every play, a high motor. Just a guy excited to play ball again.”
Running Back/Safety Ivan Mertilus: “The community can expect to see me score touchdowns, make big hits, and excite everyone.”
The Black Gold will kick off their pre-season against the Texas Herd this Saturday, May 23rd, at 7 p.m. at Astound Broadband Stadium.
