The newest member of the Continental Football League is finalizing its roster.

MIDLAND, Texas — Local football athletes and standouts from afar gathered in Midland Sunday for an opportunity to earn a professional contract as the Tall City Black Gold held its last tryout.

The tryout had over 50 entries with the players showing off their skills in position and combine drills, with a 40-yard dash, shuttle run, and three-cone drill.

Head coach Rodney Blackshear believes the team has put together a great group and that this is way to put on the finishing touches. But when it comes to the newest members of the Black Gold, Blackshear is looking for more than just the physical attributes on the field.

"I'll always look for guys who are great off the field," Blackshear said. "I've released several talented players, because they didn't fit a Blackshear recruit, so to speak, and what a Blackshear recruit entails someone who is willing to be a part of the community."

The Tall City Black Gold host their first game on May 23 with a preseason match versus non-CoFL Texas Herd. The Black Gold's season opener is May 30 at the Fort Worth Braves.
